My sister was friends with the guy in the knit sweater with Peewee and Henry (also shown in the documentary) Jeffrey or Geoffrey. Does anyone know his whereabouts now or his last name?
I remember being 16 and taking the Visage record off the shelf. I had Steve Strange sign it and walked out without paying. It felt like a little retribution for the bully gatekeeper vibe Joseph and Henry wreaked on the exploratory kids who’d frequent the shop looking for answers. They didn’t make it easy for us. Love that store.
That Guns n Roses cassette that Izzy gave Joseph was funded and put together by none other than the notorious punk scenester and singer Black Randy, who was GnR's first manager. Izzy talks about it in his book.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane and the incredible Pee-Wee documentary! I so enjoyed learning about his CalArts days and getting to see a bit more of the private man behind the character, you did such a beautiful job.
Love these photos. I need to get to an in-store asap. Still a few happening around London. I bet there are numerous subcultures bubbling away on Reddit n'that. However, it's harder for them to take hold now when there is just so much stuff out there and things move so fast.
Finally sat down and read this! A good read. I’m glad you touched on the current state of music subcultures. They still are shared and cultivated through the internet, though in person events still seem stunted post-pandemic. You don’t know you’re in a “scene” until it’s over.
Fabulous post, as always. Ruby Ray (who snapped that iconic Darby Crash photo) took photos of the 22 Hours of Fear video shoot. One pic shows Jon Savage sitting alongside V. Vale, Babeth vanLoo and Ruby's best friend Ivey.
Nice post. I still have a shopping bag from VF, went there during a business trip to LA when I interviewed Gai at l.a. Eyeworks for an article for an optical trade magazine. I bought a Monte Cazzaza 7" that came in a cool oversized sleeve designed by Gary Panter

We used to travel up and hang out in Hollywood going to all the punk rock shows in the early 80s when I was in high school.
Vinyl fetish was one stop that we used to go to a lot.
Late night, we would hang out at Oki dogs or head up to Erryl Flynn’s and hang out around an empty outdoor pool that overlook Hollywood.
Cool post. Would love photo credit for the photo of the three people walking on Melrose…polka dot dress. It’s for LA Punk Snapshots by Brenda Perlin.

Wonderful memories! So glad for this. VF was always so welcoming and allowed me to sell my TOPY videos. Appreciate the love!!
